Gym Etiquette and My 7 Rules

  1. You Should Always ask… Ask if someone is using a machine or piece of equipment, ask if you can or if their done with it… Don’t walk up and grab a plate from the rack when someone is bench pressing… It’s extremely rude…

  2. Please Put Your Weights Back… This should go without saying but it happens more often then you think… Be courteous to the people running the gym and other lifters. So that means don’t leave your weights on the ground. Again, it’s rude and dangerous…  If you can pick it up, you can put it back… Also don’t leave machines loaded up with hundreds of kilos of weight. No one really cares that you can leg press 500 lbs. Don’t leave it on the machine so someone that doesn’t lift as much as you has put it back, because you’re to cool and inconsiderate…

  3. Keep the weights where they belong… One of my biggest pet peeves is that you find 20 lbs weights where the 40’s go and the 60 lbs weights on the floor…That’s a big no no… That being said… Don’t be doing arm curls right in front of the weight racks… Leave that bit of room for the person can grab the weights that you ain’t using…

  4. Clean up after yourself, and if ya see something that doesn’t belong, put it back to where it goes please… Wipe down the equipment when your done with it too… It’s kinda gross yo…

  5. Personal space, RESPECT IT!!! If someone is working out, don’t be standing 30 cm away from them. Give them room and a comfortable surrounding… Ain’t no one need to be feeling your breathe (unless you spotting them).

  6. Don’t hog the equipment… While this is determined by the time of day… Staying at one station an hour when other’s want to use it is not very courteous… If you’re occupying a popular piece of equipment at a busy time of day, don’t sit there on your phone checking Instagram, or taking selfies…

  7. Keep the chitchat to a minimal… The gym is a place of therapy for many people and, although it can be a great social setting, if you run into a gym friend or someone you know… Don’t stand around shooting the shit while someone is waiting for that piece of equipment… Oh and of course, if someone is wearing headphones, it probably means they don’t want to be disturbed…
In conclusion, all this boils down to is: The  concept of  “being considerate”

If we could all do that, the gym would be a much friendlier, much cleaner and tidier place to visit…

Thank You!

  1. Finally someone is saying it. You are always so considerate and respectful at the gym. Hopefully people will start following your footsteps after that post. Keep up the amazing work and keep smiling.

  2. What really grinds my gears: gym ediquette can’t be taught it’s about being a good person, being considerate and knowing that your mother does not work at the gym so pick up your shit and put it back. Wipe down and Hang up your sweaty exercise mat, don’t leave your weights sitting on the floor hang up your handles when your finished. Supersets don’t mean you can use all the weights while others wait for you. Basic consideration can’t be forced it comes from within and being raised properly has alot to do with it……. just my two cents.
